Looking at the ominous mountain of white sand, he knew he had come home. Seeing it in his dream every night since he was a young boy, he knew it like the back of his hand. He knew where the huge chunk of rock gave way to reveal the secret cave and the exact location of the Buddha. How he knew without ever setting foot on this mountain, let alone this country nobody knew.
His mother had once suggested, “Past life!” and his scientist father had told her off immediately. But even his science couldn’t explain the recurring dream.

The last prompt of this year has to be something different, something exciting.
Describe your protagonist seeing/meeting an ex at the new year party.
And with this prompt, we take your leave. See you on the other side of the New Year, 2019 with yet another interesting prompt.
Till then, be good, party hard and hold your drinks well!!
Word count – 209 Words
Pot calling the kettle black
Entering the party hall, Jason made a beeline for the bar. Perched on the high stool, he asked for “whiskey, neat”. As the smooth amber liquid warmed his throat and fired up his blood, he noticed someone else taking the stool next to him. He turned to look and immediately froze.
It was the face he had vowed not to see in a million years. It was the face he had last seen passionately fused with his best friend, Joe. It was the face he could never forget.
“Fancy meeting you here!” Sonja remarked. Jason shrugged.
“All alone?” Jason asked. He was in no mood to meet Joe, for if he did, he might be tempted to hit him. Again. This New Year party was already turning into a disaster.
“I broke up with him.”
He gave out a bitter laugh. “Why am I not surprised?”
“You of all people should know that,” she retorted.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Jason was clueless.
“Forgot why I broke up with John?” She smiled, a cruel triumphant smile.
Jason remembered another day in another time. John walking in on Jason and his girlfriend, Sonja making out in his house.
“Believe me, we are cut from the same cloth,” Sonja announced calmly.

This is the picture prompt for today!!
Word count – 250 Words
Santa Exists
Ryan reached the school gate just as the kids came out. He saw little Ria come out with her friend, Sasha. Sasha’s mother scooped up Sasha and gave her a little kiss on the cheek. Ria watched the little scene unfold. Something familiarly sad tugged at Ryan’s heart. Ria was missing her mother more as she was growing up.
When Ria reached Ryan, he picked her up just like Sasha’s mother did and ruffled her mop of curly hair.
So what plans for the Christmas holidays, princess?
I have to write a long letter to Santa.
OK! And what do you have in mind?
It’s a secret, daddy. I can’t tell you.
As soon as they reached home, Ryan got busy. He had a few work calls to attend, while Ria sat down at the kitchen table to write a letter to Santa.
In the evening, she went to post the letter with her mammy.
Do you believe in Santa, darling? Mammy asked.
Of course and you will too when he grants me my wish.
On Christmas, Ria woke up earlier than usual. She went down to see if Santa had given her what she had asked.
She went to the kitchen hearing the clanking of pots and pans. Mammy would be making her pancakes. But it was not mammy.
“Mummy!! Santa has heard me!” Ria squealed in delight and hugged the woman.
Ryan signalled the new nanny. He didn’t want to break Ria’s heart. At least, not on Christmas.

Today’s prompt is neither a picture nor a sentence but it is an instruction-
Hide at least one truth among lies in your story. Hide it well.
Isn’t it a fun prompt? Let’s write and then guess what is the truth.
Word count – 235 Words
Truth or Dare
The winds had a bitter crispness to it. The group of 6 was ensconced in woollen clothes, leather jackets, gloves, socks and monkey caps. The cold seemed to have settled deep inside their bones and they were huddled together around the now dying embers of the bonfire. The rescue team would reach to them only by morning. The night was long, cold and scary.
Brij suggested, “How about playing a game to take our mind off the cold.” Everyone agreed though not very enthusiastically. “Either that or count the minutes until the first rays of the sun appears.”
“Truth or dare!” Tina suggested. This time the response was warmer.
It was Ritu’s turn. “Truth or dare?”
“Truth,” Rita replied.
“Have you ever thought of killing someone?”
“Yes!” A collective gasp rose from the group. “Who, who, Rita?” They asked.
“That’s for another round,” Rita replied calmly.
“Truth or dare?”
“Dare,” Rita replied when it was her turn again.
“I dare you to tell us how did you plan to kill that person?”
Before Rita could answer, Mitali interrupted, “Guys, I want to pee, can someone come with me?”
Rita offered and the two girls disappeared into the darkness of the night. A few minutes later, Rita came back panting and crying.
“Mitali fell down the valley,” She said out aloud. While everyone went searching for Mitali, Rita stayed back, triumph written all over her face.
“Let’s go to the tower first. Visiting hours will end soon,” she urged.
They got a panoramic bird’s eye view of the city. But he could only see the people sitting on the road side café and enjoying their coffee.
“Let’s leave,” he said.
They heard a loud explosion and the tower shook. It felt as if the earth had moved from beneath their feet. He looked down where thick clouds of smoke and dust were rising up. He could hear sirens in the distance.

This Thursday instead of a picture prompt, we decided to have fun by writing a story that starts after these lines…
In the hallway they saw a corridor with several doors leading off it. Everything in the hall was covered in dust, as though no one had touched it for a hundred years. – From the book ‘George’s Secret Key to The Universe’ – Lucy & Stephen Hawking
Word count – 195 Words
Treasure Trail
They heard the sound of water and followed it. They soon came upon a giant gargoyle spitting water in a shallow pond. The mouth of the gargoyle was large enough to fit one person. The captain first went inside the mouth. Others followed suit. They climbed up the gargoyle’s narrow, wet tunnel. The water stopped gushing out after a few metres which made the work of the team easier. Soon, they found an opening and jumped.
It was a vault full of precious stones – glittering diamonds, sparkling rubies and stunning emeralds. The team cried in joy. All those harrowing nights where they were chased by man-eating animals, mischievous jungle spirits and blood-sucking giant mosquitoes had finally rewarded them. They soon filled up their rug sacks and prepared to go. But where? Where had the opening from where they had come disappeared?
Now, it was just a room with 4 closed walls. Then the captain saw a heap of skeletons lying in one corner. There were old rug sacks too. The realisation dawned on the captain at the same time it did on his team.
No wonder no one ever came from back from this treasure trail.
“Kids, don’t go far and come before the dusk falls.”
Brother and sister found an abandoned cottage near the woods. The broken roof, smashed window panes and missing door appealed to them. It was an ideal place to play hide and seek.
“You hide, I shall seek,” said brother.
“Are you ready?” He shouted.
No girly voice answered.
“Where are you? Don’t play your silly games with me?”
He went inside the cottage, climbed up the attic but sister was nowhere to be found.
“I had told you not to venture too far.” Mother cried.
The other evening, as I was walking in the park with my daughter, yellow and orange leaves fell on us heralding the arrival of Autumn. That gave us an idea! We thought Autumn will be an ideal prompt for our second week of #TellTaleThursday. What say!!
Let’s make an ode to this golden season with our pen and imagination.

Check spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Use the graphic prompt given below, weave a story, and add to the linky. Have fun!
Word count – 159 Words
Lady in Red
She was waiting by the tree, resplendent in her favourite red dress, enjoying the pretty autumn colours. She loved when the yellow, orange and red leaves fell down and became one with the earth and the crisp mountain breeze made her hair fly. Pity most people didn’t see it that way – they only saw the barren trees that reminded them of their twilight years and impending end.
She looked up and saw a couple coming her way. The man whispered something in the woman’s ear and she laughed, love shining bright in her eyes. They were pushing a stroller with a cherubic 2-year old. The toddler looked up at her and waved. She waved back. The couple looked around, but saw nothing. They hurried their steps and left the park.
She sighed. Some people had it all. But, she was happy with her tree, her red dress and wind in the hair.
