The Woman
I saw her when I was collecting milk at the door. She had recently moved in. Wearing a black djellaba and a headscarf in the same color, her whole body was covered except her eyes.
Those eyes. They were the color of the sky on a clear day and the deepest blue lake on this earth. I had never seen such striking blue in my life.
I said, ‘Hello!’
She smiled. We met just like that every morning, I while collecting milk, and her while taking the dog out for a walk. A few weeks of smiling and greeting later, I asked her out. She agreed. And started our love story.
She invited me to her place. It was cozy, clean and empty.
“Where is your stuff?”
“I am a minimalist. I like it this way.” I was impressed.
One morning, I opened the door to collect the milk. She was not there. Her dog was sitting on the doormat looking at me, pleading with her eyes. I pushed open the door to her apartment, it was as if no one had ever lived.
I looked for her everywhere. But those azure eyes were one of a kind.
ah i wish she would have given some answers before leaving.. haunting one.. good take Anshu
Thank you akshata.. Yes that’s our mystery woman
Who was she, Anshu? Are we going to see her in a sequel. Would love to know more about her.
One intriguing character.
I would love to build the story.. Yes interesting character Priya.
Great opening Anshu. So may possibilities. In fact I can see the possibility of a science fiction twist to this story too ;P Guess i have scifi on the brain right now. Will try to go find a cure. i think David Copperfield that I have just pick up should work.
May be she was a restless soul that her deep blue eyes did not reveal. At least she should have taken her dog with her. Nice story.
Maybe. I was thinking more along the lines of a spy, hence she couldn’t take the dog with her.
Intriguing…left me with thousands of questions and equal number of possibilities for sequel. Anshu when would you dish out the next portion? I am eager!
I would love to, Anagha, but having said that there are so many stories that demand a sequel. Kis kis ko aage lihoon! LOL 😉
Those eyes look familiar.very familiar..Just like the Woman I see almost everyday in my bus on the way to my work. But she generally wears skirts.keep her long hair open and read books .She looks like a free soul who seems happy and bold.Everyday we pass a smile and then meet again ..next day. After Reading your story , I could not resist, and I followed her and witnessed something amazing.
A group of around 15 girls gather together in black djellaba and a headscarf and went inside a room with her.I knew I might get in trouble but I could not go back.I followed them and saw they all started dancing and singing. They were all happy . I could see their passion and happiness. And that Woman was teaching them .I think she was not just teaching them how to dance ..but How to live.
After half an hour they all wore their djellaba again ,looks like they wore a fake personality , hide their smile , their hair . and left .
But one thing they could not hide was the spark in their eyes.
and That Woman saw me , Smile again and left.
I never met her in the bus after that day.Have you?
